Warrant Officer Class One Daniel Broughton enlisted into the New Zealand Army in 1977 as a rifleman. Upon completion of basic training, he was posted to 2nd 1st Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment 2/1 RNZIR. He served in numerous units including 1st Battalion, RNZIR, Singapore; 2nd Canterbury and Nelson Marlborough West Coast Battalion (2 Cant NMWC); Charlie Company, 2 Cant NMWC, Timaru; Office Cadet School, New Zealand; Anzac Truce Monitoring Group, Bougainville; Headquarters, 3rd Land Force Group; New Zealand Army Subject Matter Army Review Tam (SMART), East Timor; United Nations Transitional Administration (UNTAET, East Timor; New Zealand Battalion Number 5; and the New Zealand Contingent Multinational Force and Observers (NZCMFO).
WO1 Broughton served in numerous leadership positions to include Cadre NCO, Field Wing Instructor, Training Warrant Officer, Regimental Sergeant Major, Land Component Sergeant Major, and Warrant Officer Joint Forces New Zealand.
Sergeant Major of the Army Broughton’s deployments include Australia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Rarotonga, The Solomon Islands, and East Timor.
His awards and decorations include the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, clasp to the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, Chief of General Staff’s Commendation, Medal of Meritorious Service, and was inducted as a member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.
Warrant Officer One Daniel Broughton is a graduate of Business Studies and served as the Chairman of the Army Rugby League.
Sergeant Major of the Army Broughton is married to his lovely wife, Jacqueline, and they have four children.
