Senior Warrant Officer Tang Peck Oon


Senior Warrant Officer Tang Peck Oon joined the Singapore Armed Forces as a Commando Fighter in July 1977 and has served in numerous organizations throughout his illustrious career

Senior Warrant Officer Tang was appointed as the Sergeant Major of the Army on 27 April 2011. This is the pinnacle Warrant Officer Appointment in the Singapore Army. Senior Warrant Officer Tang is a key figure in steering the development of the Army’s Warrant Officers, Specialists and Enlistees, as well as the Army’s Military Experts. He continues to place emphasis on strengthening the Army ground leadership by shaping a strong Officers-Warrant Officers partnership. He further anchored the roles of Warrant Officer and Specialist as war fighters, trainers, and leaders, who take responsibility over training, deepening knowledge and skills, leading and managing Warrant Officer Specialists and enlistees, and enforcing regimentation and discipline.

In the realm of leadership development Senior Warrant Officer Tang personally oversaw the implementation of various initiatives to groom and develop Singapore’s next generation of Warrant Officers. These included the Warrant Officer Development Program and overseas exchanges of military personnel. He was a key driver behind the review of the overall training and development roadmap for Singapore’s Warrant Officers and Specialists.

Sergeant Major of the Army Tang’s military and civilian education includes the Ranger Course, Basic Airborne Course, Basic Sniper Course, Parachute Jump Instructor Course, and several other professional leadership and development courses. He has a Diploma in Supervisory Management and attained a Specialist Advanced Diploma in Learning Science

Senior Warrant Officer Tang’s distinguished list of awards is a testament to the stellar performance in the SAF. He received, among others, the State Medal for the Military and the Singapore Armed Forces Long Service Award (30 years).

Sergeant Major of the Army Tang is married to his lovely wife, Violet, and they have one son.
