The Sergeant Major of the Ghana Army

Master Warrant Officer (MWO) Dickson Owusu hails from Kwahu Aman in the Eastern Region of Ghana. He was born on 22 September 1965. He started his primary and middle school education and graduated in 1982. He enlisted into the Ghana Army in April 1986 and attended basic infantry training in Tamale at Kamina Barracks. He completed military training in September of the same year and was posted to the 66th Artillery Regiment and subsequently the Medium Mortar Regiment in Ho. 

MWO Owusu participated in various peace support missions including UNIFIL (Lebanon) three tours, ECOMOG (Liberia) three tours, UNAMSIL (SIERRA LEONE) two tours, UNOCI (COTE D’ IVOIRE) two tours, and UNAMIR (RWANDA) during the civil war in 1994.

MWO Owusu received his present appointment of Sergeant Major of the Army on 27 October 2010.

He studied with the Institute of Adult Education in Ho and obtained his GCE “O” Level in 1995. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Course at Fort Bliss, Texas and holds a diploma from the school.

His hobbies are watching live football matches and enjoys listening to live discussion programs on TV/ Radio. He is married to the former Edith Ami Awuku and blessed with three girls, Dorcas, Diana, and Erica.

Sergeant Major of the Army Dickson Owusu is a graduate of Class 59 of the United States Army Sergeants Major Course.
