Sergeant Major Koba Tsirekidze

Sergeant Major of the Georgian Armed Forces

Sergeant Major Koba Tsirekidze was born September 28, 1978, and enlisted in the Georgian Armed Forces in 2000 as an infantryman.

Sergeant Major Koba Tsirekidze served two years of conscript military service and continued his military career in the Armed Forces as a corporal.  He was in the position of team leader in the 12th Commando Battalion and went through the specially designed program, the Georgian Train and Equip Program, to modernize the Armed Forces of Georgia.

During his military career Sgt. Maj. Tsirekidze has served in a variety of positions, including Rifleman, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Company First Sergeant, Drill Sergeant, Battalion Sergeant Major, Brigade Sergeant Major, Sergeant Major of National Training Center, and Sergeant Major of Military Police Department. He was appointed as the Sergeant Major of Georgian Armed Forces on April 11, 2016 and continues to serve today.

Sgt. Maj. Tsirekidze has two combat tours; in 2005, he was deployed to Iraq and participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and in 2012, he was deployed to Afghanistan as Command Sergeant Major of the Georgian Contingent in ISAF.

Sgt. Maj. Tsirekidze’s military awards and decorations include the Service Medal of Meritorious Service III and II ranks, Medal “Devoted to the Homeland”, Combat Merit Medal, Medal “Cross of Didgori”, and the NATO Non-Article 5 medal for ISAF.

Sgt. Maj. Tsirekidze’s education includes the Sergeant Course (part I), Sergeant Course (part II), and the Infantry Squad Leader and NCO Career courses in the U.S. Marine Corps Noncommissioned Officer Academy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economic Science. 

Sgt. Maj. Tsirekidze is married to Mrs. Maka Metrevely and together they have two children, son-Dachi and daughter – Nutsa.  His hobbies include soccer and fishing.

Sgt. Maj. Tsirekidze is a graduate of Class 61 of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Course.
