Sergeant Major of Kosovo Security Forces

Sergeant Major Genc Metaj is the Sergeant Major of Kosovo Security Forces and serves as the advisor to the Commander of the Kosovo Security Forces on enlisted matters. Born May 20, 1979 in Prishtina, Kosovo, he joined the military during the height of the Kosovo War in 1998.

Sgt. Maj. Metaj began his military career as a soldier and squad leader in the Special Forces of the Kosovo Liberation Army. At the war’s end the KLO transformed into the Kosovo Protection Corps and Sgt. Maj. Metaj continued his service working in various leadership positions including being appointed to the elite Kosovo Guard. He also worked as a drill instructor, physical fitness trainer and martial arts instructor. In 2009 the Kosovo Protection Corps became the Kosovo Security Forces. Here Sgt. Maj. Metaj worked as an accountant in the Rapid Reaction Brigade and as an instructor at the American Language Course. In August 2010, SGM Metaj was appointed as Sergeant Major of the Kosovo Security Forces.

As an emerging military, Sgt. Maj. Metaj is leading the charge in building a professional NCO Corps for the KSF. His efforts have been instrumental in instituting change in the Noncommissioned Officer Corps structure, force concepts, and doctrine. As the senior enlisted leader, he represents Kosovo NCOs on the national and international level and works closely with international senior enlisted leaders, and civilian organizations in order to build bridges and develop a professional NCO corps.

Sgt, Maj Metaj’s  military education encompasses institutional and specialized training in Kosovo and abroad including NCO Institutional Courses, Drill Instructor Course, Physical Training Instructor Course, Leadership Course, Management Course, Advanced Information Technology Course, American Language Instructor Course in the United States, Advanced Leadership Course in Switzerland, and the International Senior Enlisted Seminar in Germany.

He holds a Bachelor of Law Degree and is pursuing his Master’s Degree in Leadership Studies at the University of Texas at El Paso.

SGM Metaj is married and has two children.  His hobbies include fishing, kick boxing and basketball.

He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Sergeants Major Course Class 63.
