Sergeant Major of the Colombian Army
Sgt. Maj. of the Army Henry Whistler Dulce is the 10th Sergeant Major of the Army for the Colombian Army. Born February 14, 1968 in Bogota, Colombia, he grew up in a military family. His father was a Sergeant Major in the Colombian Army who served for more than 35 years.
Sgt. Maj. of the Army Dulce joined the Colombian Army in 1986 and was promoted to his first rank in March 1987 as a combat engineer. During his military career he has participated actively in fighting terrorism in his country by combating the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) among others terrorist groups.
Throughout his 30-year career he has served in every enlisted leadership position from Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, Battalion Sergeant Major, Brigade Sergeant Major, and Division Sergeant Major. He assumed the duties as Sergeant Major of the Army in December 2014.
Between 2006 and 2007 he was part of the military exchange program between the U.S. and Colombia. During that time he served as a guest instructor at the Henry Caro Noncommissioned Officer Academy in Fort Benning, Georgia.
SGM Dulce’s military education includes all noncommissioned officer schools for the Colombian Army; Airborne School, Jump Master School, Lancero School, Commando School, and various other professional development courses. He also completed courses in the United States including the Army Profession and Ethics Trainer Course, Comprehensive Soldier Fitness Resilience Trainer Assistant Course, International Fellows Pre-Course, Tactics Certification Course, Maneuver Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, Instructor Training Course, Small Group Instructor Course, Combat Lifesaver Course, the Army Instructor Training Course and Commando Course.
His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Education from the University of Piloto and a Bachelor’s degree in National Defense from the Colombian National Defense Institute.
Sgt. Maj. of the Army Dulce is married to Claudia and they have three children, Angie, Leidy and Juan Pablo.
He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Sergeants Major Course Class 62.
