Force Sergeant Major Anthony Lysight
Force Sergeant Major of the Jamaica Defence Force
Warrant Officer One Anthony Lysight is the Force Sergeant Major of the Jamaica Defence Force. Born in the parish of Kingston, Jamaica, on November 25, 1958, he enlisted into the Jamaica Defence Force in July 1988 and completed his basic recruit training at the Moneague Training Camp, St. Ann Jamaica.
During his career Force Sgt. Maj. Lysight has taken part in numerous military exercises and exchanges including Exercise Tradewinds held in Puerto Rico in 1991 and Calypso Hop in 1991.
His other career highlights include more than 10 years as an instructor including the training of basic recruits, junior noncommissioned officers, senior noncommissioned officers and three instructor courses. His affinity for training led him to Bermuda where he assisted in the basic training of recruits. He also spent time instructing in the United States in North Carolina training Bermudan Soldiers. He has served as a member of the directing staff, as well as, Chief Instructor for Warrant Officer Courses held at the Caribbean Junior Command Staff College, Moneague Training Camp, St. Ann, Jamaica.
Forces Sgt. Maj. Lysight has held numerous leadership positions including Section Commander, Platoon Sergeant, Training Sergeant, Permanent Staff Instructor, Operations Sergeant Major, Company Sergeant Major and Regimental Sergeant Major. He was appointed to his present position on December 1, 2014.
His military education includes the Potential Noncommissioned Officers Cadre Course, Section Commanders Battle Course and Senior Noncommissioned Officer Course graduating as the top student in each course.
Forces Sgt. Maj. Lysight attained his early formal education at the Calabar Primary School and Meadowbrook High School. He holds a National Vocational Qualification Certificate in Assessment Level 4, an Associate of Science Degree in Business Administration from the University of West Indies, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from University College of the Caribbean.
His military awards and decorations include the Medal of Honour for Meritorious Service, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Medal of Honour for Long Service and Good Conduct, and the First Bar to the Medal of Honour for Long Service and Good Conduct.
Forces Sgt. Maj. Lysight is married to Karen and they have two children, Debon and Shaneil.
He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Sergeants Major Course, Class 55.
