Command Sergeant Major JooSik Kim

Combined Forces Command & Ground Component Command Republic of Korea

Command Sgt. Maj. JooSik Kim was born in Jeonbuk, Republic of Korea. He joined the Republic of Korea Army in February 1985. He completed basic training at the Army Training Center and went on to the ROK Noncommissioned Officer Academy and enlisted as an engineer.

Command Sgt. Maj. Kim has served in all enlisted ranks throughout his career including Private from February to August 1985; Staff Sergeant from August 1985 to November 1987, Sergeant First Class from December 1987  to October 1993, Master Sergeant  from November 1993 to November 2007, and Sergeant Major from 2007 to present.

Command Sgt. Maj. Kim has served in various assignments including Fire Fighter NCO and Noncommissioned Officer in Charge, 25th Support Battalion, 35th Transportation Battalion, and 5th Support Command (1985-1993); Liaison NCO for the United States Army’s 1317th Medium Port Command and 20th Support Group (1993-1996); Liaison NCO for the 728th Military Police Battalion and 36th Signal Battalion (1996-2000); Instructor for the Army NCO Academy (2001-2007); G1 Sergeant Major, Army Headquarters (2008); Command Sergeant Major of Reconnaissance Battalion, 17th Infantry Division (2008-2011); G3 Sergeant Major, 17th Infantry Division (2011-2012); Command Sergeant Major, 3rd Defense Ground, Incheon National Airport (2012-2014); and Simulation Control and Administration Sergeant Major, CBSC, ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command (2014-2016). He is currently serving as the Command Sergeant Major of the ROK-U.S. Combined Forces Command (ROK) and Ground Component Command.

Command Sgt. Maj. Kim is a graduate of the Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course; Fire Fighter Course; Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course; Senior Noncommissioned Officer Course; First Sergeant Course; and the Army Noncommissioned Officer English Course, Class 3. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Arts from YoungNam University, Daegu, South Korea.

Command Sgt. Maj Kim’s awards and decorations include: Command–level Citation, Corps-level Citation, Division-Level Citation, Regimental-Level Citation, Battalion-Level Citation, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Medal, Army Chief of Staff Medal, 1-4 Star Generals Medals, Korean war 40 Year Anniversary Medal, ROK Armed Forces Medal, Olympic Medal, Red Cross Medal, 30 Years Service Medal and Badge, U.S. Army Commendation Medal, and Certificates of Appreciation from the U.S. Army’s 20th Support Group and 36th Signal Battalion.

Command Sgt. Maj Kim is married to Mrs. Eunsook Jeon for 22 years. They have three daughters Kim Yesle, Kim Yewon and Kim Yebin. They currently reside in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, South Korea.

Command Sgt. Maj Kim is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Course, Class 51.
