On Dec. 10th, Command Sgt. Maj. Jimmy Sellers, the senior enlisted advisor for U.S. Army Materiel Command, visited the NCO Leadership Center of Excellence (NCOLCoE) and Sergeants Major Academy (SGM-A) Class 75 where he spoke to students and answered questions posed by members of the class.
During his presentation Sellers gave the students background on the work Army Materiel Command does, often behind the scenes and told them about projects in development intended to improve the quality of life for Soldiers and their Families.
Sellers described the AMC mission as “We touch every Soldier on and off the battlefield.” Referring to the wide variety of logistics and support roles they take on while supporting military installations and in equipping combat units with all the equipment they need to deploy and defend the nation.
He spoke to Class 75 about proposed changes to barracks and base housing. He also gave details on some of the changes coming to meal entitlement cards and how they will be usable at Defense Commissaries and Army Air Force Exchange Services and even the new campus style dining facilities that will soon be opened at five pilot installations in the United States starting this fiscal year. The intent is to have such facilities on most Army installations in the future.
During his presentation to class 75 he gave a piece of advice to the students “Stay focused on what NCOs do and what they are for in the formation and use the education you have obtained here to drive the culture.”
Sellers also took time to speak on the NCOLCoE podcast about his experience with education opportunities to the force and how they have been beneficial to the NCO corps. He told about some of his experience with graduates he has met since returning to the force, with many of them telling him the academy helped them to develop critical thinking they use daily as Sergeant’s Major.
Sellers previously served as the commandant of the NCOLCoE seeing classes 68-70 graduate. Under his tenure at the institution he led the accreditation process for the bachelor’s degree in Leadership and Workforce Development that attendants of the SGM-A are now eligible to earn. The program was the first degree granting program focusing on NCO development.
