Mr. Olivas is a native of Albuquerque, NM. He entered the US Army in May of 1983 and received Basic Training and AIT at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Follow on assignment Airborne school at Fort Benning, GA. His first duty assignment was an assistant gunner in the Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division Fort Bragg NC.
Mr. Olivas’ initial assignment was A Battery 2/321st FA (Airborne), Fort Bragg, NC. His subsequent assignments include; HSB 2/321st FA (Airborne), Fort Bragg, NC; A Battery and HSB 3/319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment (AFAR), Fort Bragg, NC; C Battery 4/11th FA (Airborne), Fort Richardson, Alaska; B Battery 2/8th FA, Fort Lewis, Washington; HHC Company, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC; A and HSB Batteries 2/319th AFAR, Fort Bragg, NC; ; A and B Companies, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Fort Bliss, Texas; HHB, V CORPS Artillery, Heidelberg, Germany, and CSM for 2/319th AFAR, Fort Bragg, NC. Mr. Olivas has three combat tours; Operation Desert Shield/Storm; and Operation Iraqi Freedom I and III.
Mr. Olivas served in numerous positions of increased responsibility, including Section Chief, Gunnery Sergeant, Chief of Firing Battery/Platoon Sergeant, Observer Controller, Equal Opportunity Advisor, First Sergeant, First Sergeant Course Instructor, Sergeant Major Course Instructor, Operations Sergeant Major, Command Sergeant Major, Director of Operations, and now a Course Manager.
Mr. Olivas is a graduate of the Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute, First Sergeant Course, Battle Staff Course, and the US Army Sergeants Major Course, Class 54, Battalion Pre-Command Course, Basic Airborne Course, Jumpmaster Course, Path Finder Course, Air Assault School, and Ranger School. Mr. Olivas received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Excelsior College in Liberal Arts with focus areas in Administration and Management, a Master of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies from Excelsior College, and a Graduate Certificate in Instructional Systems Specialist from Trident University International.
Mr. Olivas awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal w/ “V” device, Order of Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal (5th Award), Army Commendation Medal (4th Award), Army Achievement Medal (5th Award), Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Service Stars, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon w/numeral 4, NATO Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait). He also has the Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Path Finder Badge, Air Assault Badge, Combat Action Badge and the Canadian, and Honduran Parachutist badges.
Mr. Olivas resides in El Paso, TX and is married to Delilah and have four adult sons, and three grand kids.
