CSM R.J (Remko) Weijts

1989 – Present

CSM Remko Weijts was born July 22nd, 1970 in Leeuwarden in the Northern part of the Netherlands. After finishing High school in 1987, he joined the Army in 1989 by being admitted to the Royal Military School for Non Commissioned Officers and completed his training at the School of Signals in 1991.

After being assigned to 41 and 108 Signal Battalion as a squad leader and a position within the National Telematica Organization, CSM Weijts held a position within the G6 branch of 43  Mechanized Brigade, followed by several positions as a Signal specialist within the staff of 44 Mechanized Infantry Battalion. At the age of 35 he successfully completed the Air Assault course and was assigned a position as Commander C2 Support Element with 13 Airmobile Infantry Battalion, Air Assault. In 2008, CSM Weijts was promoted to SGM and accepted a position as 2IC of the Signal Platoon 11 Air Maneuver Brigade, Air Assault. Later, during his position as Company Sergeant Major with 102 Electronic Warfare company, Joint ISTAR Command, he was selected to attend USASMA’s Sergeants Major Course. CSM Weijts is a graduate of USASMA Class 63 and stayed at USASMA as Faculty Advisor / Small Group Leader for classes 64 and 65.

After returning to the Netherlands he held a position at the Royal Military School for Non Commissioned Officers where he trained NCO’s at the Primary and Secondary Leadership Development Courses. In 2017, CSM Weijts was appointed the position of Battalion Command Sergeant Major at 101 Communication and Information systems Battalion, Operational Support Command Land, and held this position during the battalion’s transition into the newly formed Command and Control Support Command. After the transition he was appointed as the CSM of the School of Signals. In 2020, he was assigned the position of CSM at the Land Warfare Centre. Currently, he holds the position of CSM at the Joint IT Command, Royal Netherlands Armed Forces.

CSM Weijts was deployed to Bosnia in 1992 and 2000, to Afghanistan in 2007, and his last deployment was to Mali as Force Sergeant Major MINUSMA, in 2022. During his career CSM Weijts completed numerous military courses. Most notable are the Primary and Secondary Leadership Development Course; Additional Leadership Courses for SGM's and CSM's; diverse Helicopter Handling Courses, Parachute Course and specific Command and Control related courses.

CSM Weijts’ awards and decorations include the United Nations Peacekeeping Medal, NATO non-article 5 Balkans Medal, Service Medal, Army Medal, Medal Peacekeeping Operations Afghanistan, NATO non-article 5 ISAF Medal, the (US) Army Commendation Medal and Parachutist Wings A and B. CSM Weijts is a bearer of the Red Baret. He is married to Francisca and they live in Wirdum, the Netherlands.
